Nach unserem Besuch in Page ging es direkt weiter zum Grand Canyon National Park. Für die gut 100 Meilen (160km) lange Fahrt sollte man ca. 2 Stunden einkalkulieren, wobei durch die schöne Landschaft auch durchaus länger gebraucht werden kann. Die Umgebung ist wunderschön und es ergeben sich immer wieder großartige Fotospots.
Da wir aus Richtung Page zum National Park fuhren, begann unsere Tour durch den Grand Canyon am Ost Eingang (East Entrance), wo beim Dessert View gleich ein atemberaubender Ausblick auf die Besucher wartet.
Der Grand Canyon ist in seinem Ausmaßen nur schwer beschreibbar und kann selbst vor Ort kaum in seiner “Größe” begriffen werden. Der Canyon ist dabei ca. 450km lang und zwischen 6km und 30km breit. Die durchschnittliche Höhe liegt bei ca. 2100m und die Tiefe der Schlucht zum Colorado River ist bis zu 1800m tief. Schier unglaublich was hier die Natur über Millionen von Jahren gestaltet hat.
Wie die meisten anderen Touristen besuchten wir auch den South Rim, also den südlichen Teil des Parkes und fuhren hier vom östlichen Eingang in Richtung Grand Canyon Village. Hier hatten wir für eine Nacht auch in einer der Lodges ein Zimmer gebucht. Die Fahrt entlang des Canyons ist dabei sehr einfach und entspannt, es gibt zahlreiche Stellen zum Parken, um die tolle Aussicht zu genießen und auf sich einwirken zu lassen. Der National Park unterhält auch ein Bus-Shuttle System, so das nicht unbedingt mit dem eigenem Auto gefahren werden muss. Die folgenden Bilder sind eine kleine Auswahl aus über 100 Bildern.
Ein beliebter Punkt, um den Sonnenuntergang im Park zu erleben ist Hopi Point, auch hier verkehrt der Shuttle Bus, so dass es recht einfach ist dorthin zu gelangen. Allerdings sollte man sich rechtzeitig auf den Weg machen, denn die “besten” Plätze sind, vor allem in der Hochsaison, schnell besetzt. Leider hatten wir an diesem Tag nicht ganz so viel Glück mit dem Wetter und die Wolken wollten die Sonne nicht so richtig freigeben, dennoch war es ein sehr schöne Erlebnis, nicht nur aus fotografischer Sicht.
Der Grand Canyon ist sicherlich ein Highlight auf der Westküstentour und bietet unzählige fotografische interessante Motive. Wart Ihr auch schon mal beim Grand Canyon?
After our visit to Page we went directly to the Grand Canyon National Park. You should plan about 2 hours for the 100-mile drive (160km), although the beautiful landscape can take longer. The surroundings are beautiful and there are always great photo spots.
Since we were driving from Page to the National Park, our tour through the Grand Canyon began at the East Entrance, where a breathtaking view awaits visitors at Dessert View.
The Grand Canyon is difficult to describe in its dimensions and its “size” can hardly be understood even on site. The canyon is about 450km (280mi) long and between 6km (3.75mi) and 30km (18.75mi) wide. The average altitude is about 2100m (2300 yards) and the depth of the canyon to the Colorado River is up to 1800m (1970 yards). It is almost unbelievable what nature has created here over millions of years.
Like most other tourists, we visited the South Rim, i.e. the southern part of the park, and drove from the eastern entrance in the direction of Grand Canyon Village. Here we had booked a room for one night in one of the lodges. The drive along the canyon is very easy and relaxed, there are plenty of places to park to enjoy the great view and take in the scenery. The National Park also maintains a bus shuttle system, so you don’t necessarily have to drive your own car. The following pictures are a small selection from over 100 pictures.
A popular spot to see the sunset in the park is Hopi Point, which also has a shuttle bus service so it’s fairly easy to get there. However, you should set off in good time, because the “best” places are quickly occupied, especially in the high season. Unfortunately we weren’t that lucky with the weather that day and the clouds didn’t really want to release the sun, but it was still a very nice experience, not only from a photographic point of view.
The Grand Canyon is certainly a highlight on the west coast tour and offers countless interesting photographic motifs. Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon?
