Nachdem wir St. Louis erreicht hatten, ging es von dort zunächst weiter mit dem Flugzeug nach Denver in Colorado. Hier sollte unser eigentliche Road Trip in Richtung Los Angeles starten. Die Rocky Mountains sind mit Sicherheit auch eine wunderschöne Gegend mit vielen tollen Fotolokations, aber aufgrund unserer Zeitplanung und der Fokusierung auf dieser Tour war das nächste Fotohighlight das Monument Valley. Wer kennt nicht diese unverwechselbaren Felstürme und Tafelberge im roten Standstein, Wild-West Feeling pur. Das Monument Valley liegt im Reservat der Navajo Nations im Grenzgebiet von Utha und Arizona und ist eine Hochebene des Coloardos Plateaus. Tatsächlich erreicht das Plateau eine Höhe von bis zum 1900m und im Winter kann auch im Monument Valley Schnee liegen. Bereits die Fahrt von Colorado nach Utha war landschaftlich wunderschön und kontrastreich. Hier ein paar Bilder die unterwegs entstanden sind.
Schon von weiten kann man die speziellen Felsformationen erkennen. Die markante rötliche Farbe der Felsen resultiert übrigens aus Eisenoxid, das in den Gesteinsschichten enthalten ist.
Im eigentlichen Bereich des Monument Valleys gibt es die Möglichkeit einen Autorundweg zu befahren (Scenic Drive), da wir aber natürllich mehr über die Gegend, Ihre Geschichte und den Menschen erfahren wollten, haben wir uns für eine private Tour von Navajo Spirit entschieden. Hier machten wir nicht nur eine Fahrte durch das Monument Valley, sonder am späten Nachmittag noch eine Tour durch das Mystery Valley, das nur in Begleitung eines Mitgliedes der Nation durchfahren werden darf. Wir hatten ein wirklich tolle Tour, mit vielen Informationen und ausergewöhnlichen Aussichtspunkten. After we reached St. Louis, we continued from there by plane to Denver in Colorado. This is where our actual road trip towards Los Angeles should start. The Rocky Mountains are definitely a beautiful area with lots of great photo locations, but due to our timing and focus on this tour, the next photo highlight was Monument Valley. Who does not know these unmistakable rock towers and mesas in the red standing stone, pure Wild West feeling. Located on the Navajo Nations Reservation on the Utah-Arizona border, Monument Valley is a high plateau of the Coloardos Plateau. In fact, the plateau reaches an altitude of up to 1900m and in winter there can be snow in Monument Valley. Already the drive from Colorado to Utha was scenically beautiful and full of contrasts. The special rock formations can be seen from afar. Incidentally, the striking reddish color of the rocks results from iron oxide, which is contained in the rock layers.
In the actual area of Monument Valley there is the possibility to drive a circular route (Scenic Drive), but since we naturally wanted to learn more about the area, its history and the people, we decided to take a private tour from Navajo Spirit. Here we not only made a drive through Monument Valley, but also a tour through Mystery Valley in the late afternoon, which may only be driven through when accompanied by a member of the nation.
